New Delhi. A press release from the Commonwealth said that the Commonwealth is fully prepared to welcome Ministers and Attorney General including India in the Commonwealth Law Ministers meeting to be held in Nadi from 9 to 12 February 2026. This meeting is taking place at a time when the rule of law is continuously weakening across the world. Over the three days, the Law Minister will discuss how strong legal safeguards protect everyday life, including people’s ability to participate in democracy and live dignified lives. Also includes the right to live in healthy communities.

Ministers are also expected to agree on practical measures to advance the rule of law by improving access to justice and strengthening legal institutions that support stable societies, fair economies and environmental protection. Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Botchway thanked the Government of Fiji for hosting the meeting. He said that rule of law is necessary for peace, stability and development. Yet it is under severe pressure in many parts of the world. Where it is weak or unevenly applied, it impacts ordinary people the most. For the Commonwealth, the rule of law is the cornerstone of our charter and our work. This requires practical, thoughtful commitment and cooperation, not just words. The Secretary-General further said that together in Fiji, our Ministers will strengthen the rule of law as the foundation of a strong future, where every person has a voice in a democracy, every worker is treated with dignity and every vulnerable community is protected from a changing climate. It is expected that the outcomes of this meeting will help shape the agenda of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held in Antigua and Barbuda later this year.
