Momo is a delectable steamed street food often loved by many of us. While a plate costs around 50-100 rupees per plate in the local market, the rates might differ from state to state. But have you ever heard of someone spending lakhs on momo? Well, it's true, and the rare incident took place in the Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh. Scroll down to find the details.
According to a PTI report, a class 7 student's craving for momo ended in a shocking loss for his family, as he was allegedly coaxed into handing over jewelry from his home worth about ₹85 lakh to three youths in exchange for the street food.
The incident came to light in Bhagwanpur Tiwari village under Rampur Karkhana police station area when the boy's aunt visited the house on Sunday and asked for her jewellery. It was then the family was stocked to discover that all the ornaments were missing. When questioned, the minor revealed that he had given away the jewellery to youths operating a momo stall at Dumri Chauraha on the Deoria-Kasya road.
As per reports, the student had developed a habit of regularly eating the steamed snack and the stall operators initially sold him momos for cash. Once his money ran out, they allegedly lured him into bringing jewellery from home, insisting that he hand over ornaments in exchange for the snacks. And as the kid was addicted to momo, he allegedly kept bringing gold items from the family cupboard and giving them away to the youths.
Once the family discovered the loss, the kid's father, a temple priest in Varanasi filed an FIR against three accused under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 305 at Rampur Karkhana police station.
As per the PTI report, two accused, a young man and a woman have been arrested, and some of the jewellery has been recovered. One accused is still absconding.
