Warm-up matches are organized before any ICC event, so that the teams can adapt to the local conditions and pitch conditions. T20 World Cup 2026 is starting from 7th February and its warm-up matches have already started.


Sports News: India A team has been announced for the warm-up matches of T20 World Cup 2026. This team notably sees the return of Tilak Verma, who was out of the recent T20 series against New Zealand due to injury. India A team will be fielded against America and Namibia in warm-up matches.


Holding warm-up matches before an ICC tournament gives teams an opportunity to adapt to match conditions and work on strategy. The T20 World Cup 2026 is starting from February 7, while the warm-up matches of the India A team are already being held. India A team will be seen playing against America on 2 February and Namibia on 6 February.


Tilak Verma’s return


Tilak Verma has been included in the India A team. He is also a part of the main Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2026. Tilak Verma could not play in the T20 series against New Zealand recently due to injury. Now he is fully fit and will join the main team after playing in the warm-up matches. 23 year old Tilak Verma has played 40 T20 International matches for India so far.


In these matches, he has scored a total of 1183 runs at an average of 49.29 and strike rate of 144. His innings included 6 half-centuries and 2 centuries. Notably, in the final of Asia Cup 2025, Tilak played an important role in making India the Asia Cup champion by scoring an unbeaten half-century in difficult conditions.



Mayank Yadav’s return


Mayank Yadav has also returned to the India A team. He was away from the field in IPL 2025 due to injury. Mayank Yadav has played three T20 International matches for India and will now get a chance to prove his fitness and form in the warm-up matches. The captain of India A team will be Ayush Badoni. Under his leadership, the mix of young and experienced players will make the team competitive.


India A team includes many players with international experience. There are also players like Riyan Parag, Ravi Bishnoi and Khalil Ahmed. This is an important opportunity for young players to test themselves in the T20 World Cup environment. Warm-up matches are also important because through this the team management can assess the form, combination and strategy of the players.


The matches against USA and Namibia are an important preparation part for the Indian team, giving the players a chance to get into match rhythm ahead of the tournament.
