Liam Rosenior has claimed Chelsea’s recent record of winning big matches and trophies can help knock Arsenal out of the Carabao Cup.

The Blues lifted the UEFA Conference League and FIFA World Club Cup last season and Enzo Fernandes is a World Cup winner.

The Gunners top the Premier League and Champions League tables but have not lifted silverware since the 2020 FA Cup. Bukayo Saka is the only survivor of that squad.

And Mikel Arteta ’s team have lost their last four two-legged semi-finals, including 0-4 to Newcastle last season.

The Gunners will defend a 3-2 opening leg win at The Emirates tonight - Rosenior’s only defeat in charge of Chelsea.

• Chelsea closing in on double deadline day deal as star leaving club for FIFTH time

• Arsenal earn LESS from Champions League than Liverpool and Man City despite perfect record

But asked if Arsenal’s lack of big-match wins could be a factor in the highly-charged London derby, the former Strasbourg boss said: “Yeah, I think my players, I look at maybe Enzo Fernandez has won a World Cup as well, as the group winning two trophies last year. They can play in big games; they can perform in big games, and it is definitely a big game on Tuesday. Talking about what Arsenal or Mikel Arteta have or haven't done. That's not my concern. My concern is resting. It's another three-game week. We need to recover. It's going to be a really physical game on Tuesday and preparing the team as best I can for that game.”

Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to six points this weekend but their home crowd - and the players - have shown signs of nerves as they seek a first title since 2022.

Asked if Chelsea can play on that, Rosenior replied: “We'll see. We'll see. We'll go and play our game.”

Jose Mourinho won the League Cup at Chelsea in 2004-05 - the first of eight trophies during his two spells at the club.

Rosenior is on a run of five wins since his appointment last month to replace Enzo Maresca - and is now two wins away from winning a trophy

“I'll be really honest, all this proof of me being right for the job or not, I don't really care,” he said. “I'm here to do the job; I don't care. If we get to the final, it's great for Chelsea Football Club that we're in the final, it's not about me. I will prove in time whether I'm worthy or not, but it's not at the forefront of my mind.”

Rosenior showed Mourinho-like decisiveness to make three half-time subs against West Ham on Saturday to secure a second comeback of the week. He had made seven changes from the Champions League team in Napoli and again raised questions about the strength of his squad outside the regular starters.

But the former Fulham and Brighton defender claimed: “I can't speak for other managers in terms of myself. I don't have a best 11. I never have done in all of the clubs that I've worked with. Why? Because of the demands, the physical demands of the Premier League or Ligue 1 or the Championship now with 46 games.

"You need a squad, and you need to use the players in the correct way to challenge over the course of the season. I can't speak for other managers if they have a best 11. Here at the moment, I've been in for three and a half weeks. I'm just getting to know the players; I don't have a best 11 in my mind. I try and pick the right starting team, but I also try to pick a bench that will give us the right finishing team as well.

"So far I have to say the substitutes in every game that we've played have made a huge impact. It's not down to my tactical stuff, there's some part of that, but it's down to their mentality to come on and help the team.”
