PM Kisan Yojana: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced that the Union Government has allocated Rs 63,500 crore for the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme in the Union Budget for the financial year 2026-27.

But since this provision is the same as the previous year, there has been no increase in the annual financial assistance to farmers under the scheme. As a result, eligible farmer families will get only Rs 6,000 per year next year as well.

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana was launched in 2019. The objective of this scheme is to provide minimum financial support to the landholding farmers for their pre-planting expenses.

Under this scheme, eligible farmer families are paid Rs 6,000 per year through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). This amount is deposited in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 each, directly into the farmer’s bank account.

The 21st installment of PM Kisan Yojana was credited to farmers’ accounts on November 19. So now the attention of farmers has turned to the 22nd installment.

Like last year, this installment is expected to be announced by the end of February. Therefore, it is expected that Rs 2,000 will be deposited in the farmer’s account in the last week of February.

Meanwhile, there is no increase in the assistance under the PM Kisan Yojana in the budget, and the farmers’ organizations are expressing their displeasure. Farmers’ organizations say the annual assistance of Rs 6,000 is grossly inadequate considering the rising cost of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, labor and fuel.

In the pre-budget meeting held in December, many organizations had demanded that this assistance should be at least Rs 9,000 to 12,000. But the government has not given place to this demand in the budget.

At present, around 10 crore farmer families are benefiting from PM Kisan Yojana across the country. Since the inception of the scheme, the central government has transferred more than Rs.3.70 lakh crore directly to the farmers’ accounts. So far, total 21 installments of this scheme have been issued, and the attention of the farmers is on the next installment.
