Adobe will not discontinue Animate after all
04 Feb 2026

Adobe has decided not to go ahead with its plan to discontinue Adobe Animate on March 1.

The company confirmed the change in an FAQ, stating that Animate will now only be in maintenance mode.

It said there are "no plans to discontinue or remove access" to the app. However, it won't be getting any new features going forward.

Ongoing security and bug fixes
Updates

Despite the lack of new features, Adobe has assured users that Animate will continue to receive "ongoing security and bug fixes."

The app will remain accessible for both new and existing users.

This decision comes after a wave of frustration from creators over Adobe's initial discontinuation announcement.

Notably, artists like David Firth who created the animated web series Salad Fingers still use this application for their work.

Commitment to users
User assurance

Adobe has reiterated its commitment to ensure that Animate users will always have access to their content, regardless of the app's development status.

This statement comes after an announcement email sent out about the discontinuation was criticized for not meeting standards and causing confusion within the community.

The company now plans to keep Animate in maintenance mode "indefinitely" for individual, small business, and enterprise customers alike.
