Free Gas Cylinder: A new scheme to reduce kitchen expenses during festivals has been launched in Delhi. Understanding the necessary conditions and process is crucial to avail the benefits of this scheme.
Free Gas Cylinder: The Delhi government has taken a major step to reduce kitchen expenses during festivals. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the cabinet has approved a scheme that will directly benefit economically weaker families. A system has been put in place to reimburse the cost of gas cylinders during major festivals like Holi and Diwali.
The government has allocated a budget of Rs 242 crore for this. However, certain conditions must be met to avail the benefits of this scheme. Following the correct process with the right documents is essential; otherwise, there may be difficulties in receiving the benefit. Learn how you can avail the benefits of this Delhi government scheme.
What do you need to do to avail the benefits of the scheme?
To avail the benefits of this Delhi government scheme, you must first have a valid ration card. The gas connection must be in the same name as the ration card. Your bank account must be linked to Aadhaar, and your KYC should be updated. Your mobile number should also be linked to Aadhaar to avoid any problems during digital verification.
The process will remain the same. You have to book your cylinder from your gas agency and pay the full price upon delivery. After this, the gas company will send the consumer data to the government. Upon being found eligible, an amount of Rs 853 will be transferred directly to your bank account.
You won't get a free cylinder directly
Many people, upon hearing about this scheme, are wondering if the Delhi government is actually giving away free cylinders. Let us clarify that the method is slightly different. You will not receive a free cylinder directly. You will have to pay for the cylinder first. Later, the government will transfer the cost of the cylinder, currently Rs 853, directly to your account through Direct Benefit Transfer.
This benefit will be available twice a year, on the occasions of Holi and Diwali. This means you will receive a refund equivalent to the cost of two cylinders per year. The entire process is digital. It is also worth noting that this scheme includes eligible families who use piped natural gas (PNG). They will also receive the same amount directly through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).
