Pune News : A tanker carrying propylene gas overturned on the Pune-Mumbai Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway near the Adoshi tunnel and thousands of passengers were directly affected. Due to this accident, there has been a severe traffic jam for about 30 kilometers on the expressway, and the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation has decided to temporarily cancel the ST bus service from Pune to Mumbai.
After the accident on Tuesday evening, the traffic on the highway has been moving at a very slow speed for the last 20 hours. Long queues of vehicles have formed on one lane going towards Mumbai and two lanes coming towards Pune.
Hundreds of private vehicles, cargo trucks and many buses of ST Corporation are stuck in this dilemma. It was seen that the passengers were suffering due to being stuck in the vehicles for a long time and many passengers were upset due to lack of heat, water and food. Some passengers were seen getting down from the vehicles and waiting for help.
The situation has become more critical as propylene gas is still leaking from the stricken tanker. As the gas is flammable, the Highway Police has taken special precautions to avoid any accident.
The police explained that the traffic could not be completely smoothed out due to security reasons. The process of transferring the gas from the tanker to another tanker will be started soon and only after its completion the work of removing the overturned tanker will be taken up.
However, since this process is time-consuming, no definite information is yet available about how much more time it will take to restore traffic.
Meanwhile, along with the expressway, the old Pune-Mumbai highway has also created a traffic jam. There is also a possibility of problems due to increased pressure on alternative routes.
Therefore, the highway police has appealed to motorists to avoid traveling on the expressway as much as possible, use alternative routes and keep water and necessary food supplies with them while traveling.
Due to the suspension of ST bus services, thousands of passengers traveling between Pune-Mumbai are likely to be inconvenienced, and the transport corporation has appealed to them to change their travel plans until the situation is under control.
