News India Live, Digital Desk: Indian music magician and Oscar winner AR Rahman was recently embroiled in controversy regarding one of his statements. He had hinted that some forces or ‘gangs’ in Bollywood were preventing him from getting work and there could be a ‘communal angle’ involved in this. After the sharp reaction of many stars on this statement, now veteran director Subhash Ghai, who has made blockbuster films like ‘Taal’ and ‘Pardesh’, has defended Rahman. Defense of Subhash Ghai: “Rahman believes in humanity, not religion.” Subhash Ghai, who has worked with Rahman in films like ‘Taal’, ‘Kisna’ and ‘Yuvraj’, said in a recent interview that Rahman’s words Has been misrepresented. Ghai said, “I have known Rahman since 1994. I have always seen him believe in spirituality and humanity. He has written so many bhajans and Sufi songs, he can never talk about discrimination on the basis of religion.”Is there really ‘communalism’ in Bollywood? Ghai’s blunt reply: Rejecting the news of communal tension in the industry, Subhash Ghai said that the film industry is the most secular place. He said, “We work like brothers here. Issues like communal unrest and unemployment have been and will be in the society for years, but a true artist only focuses on his work. Rahman’s statement is being blown out of proportion unnecessarily.” Root of controversy: What did AR Rahman say? Actually, during an interview, Rahman was asked why he is working less in Hindi films these days. In response to this he said that some people were spreading false rumors about him. He had also said that perhaps some decisions were being taken due to ‘communal’ thinking, although he had clarified that this did not happen directly in front of him. After this statement, a debate broke out on social media regarding ‘Bollywood gang’ and ‘religious discrimination’. Rahman’s clarification: “My intention was not to hurt anyone.” Seeing the controversy increasing, AR Rahman also issued a video message and gave clarification. He said, “Music is a medium for me to connect with people. Sometimes the intentions are misunderstood. I am a proud Indian and I am proud to be a part of the multicultural voices of this country.” Industry’s reaction: Kangana and Paresh Rawal had also reacted. Stars like actress Kangana Ranaut and Paresh Rawal had also given their opinion on this alleged ‘communal’ statement of Rahman. While some called it the truth of the industry, some called it a statement that tarnishes India’s image. However, after Subhash Ghai’s support, this controversy has now taken a new turn.
