Eshan Malinga Sri Lanka's primary fast bowler remains uncertain for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. The right-arm pacer who uses a sling bowling style secured his position in the team despite his existing injury problems. Eshan dislocated his shoulder while bowling during his four-day stay at Pallekele. Eshan walked off the field after he completed his second over against England when he threw his second pitch.

Reports later emerged that Eshan would miss the Sri Lankan squad because he needed four to six weeks for his recovery. The selectors included him in the final team despite this development. The Dasun Shanaka-led team selected three fast bowlers for the tournament with Dushmantha Chameera and Matheesha Pathirana serving as the remaining two bowlers.

Shanaka spoke about Eshan's fitness status during his captain's meeting in Colombo held earlier today. The all-rounder said the medical team will soon submit a detailed report on the pacer. Eshan will need to recover his fitness before the match because Dilshan Madushanka and Pramod Madushan exist as potential replacements for him.

Shanaka explained that he assesses Sri Lanka's current World Cup prospects based on their past performances and the experience they gained from previous tournaments.
