A major recruitment drive is about to begin in Bihar to address the shortage of teachers in government schools. Preparations have been completed for the recruitment of approximately 44,000 teachers under the fourth phase of the teacher recruitment process. The Education Department has received details of vacancies from all districts for classes 1 to 12, and the posts have been approved according to the reservation roster. This proposal has now been sent to the General Administration Department, from where it will soon be forwarded to the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). The notification for TRE-4 is expected to be released soon.

How many posts are in each class?

This recruitment will focus more on secondary and higher secondary classes. Approximately 25,000 posts will be filled for classes 9 to 12.  Around 19,000 teachers will be appointed for classes 1 to 8. The estimated number of posts at each level is as follows: 19,000 for classes 1-8, 12,000 for classes 9-10, and 13,000 for classes 11-12.

Large-scale recruitment in the first three phases

In the last two years, approximately 2.27 lakh teachers have been appointed through three phases. After the completion of the fourth phase of recruitment, the total number of teachers in the state will increase to approximately 6.40 lakh. This will also improve the student-teacher ratio. Currently, there is an average of one teacher for every 29 students, which will decrease to approximately 27 students per teacher after the new appointments.

New rules for reservation and domicile

In TRE-4, for the first time, candidates from Bihar will receive a significant advantage. Approximately 85 percent of the seats are being reserved for candidates from Bihar. Only 15 percent of the seats will be open to candidates from other states or those who have completed their matriculation and intermediate education outside Bihar. Female candidates will also receive the benefit of special reservation.

Counseling for candidates who passed the competency test

The counseling for candidates who passed the third and fourth phases of the competency test for local body teachers will continue until February 11th. The certificates of approximately 12,819 candidates will be verified. Counseling will be conducted at district centers in five slots daily, from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
