
Patna, 6 February. A major accident took place during the proceedings of the House on Friday, the fourth day of the Bihar Assembly budget session. However, no one was harmed in this incident. Actually, Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar was going inside for the proceedings of the House, when a part of the roof of the building collapsed and fell down. It was fortunate that he did not fall prey to it.
Renovation was done before the session by spending lakhs of rupees.
It is noteworthy that the assembly building was renovated before the budget session, lakhs of rupees were also spent for this. There was a stir in the assembly premises after the incident. Security personnel and administrative officials immediately reached the spot and took control of the situation. After part of the roof collapsed, that route was closed for some time and the movement of other members was stopped.
Questions on the quality of construction and repair works
It is said that before the budget session, repair, painting and decoration work was done in the assembly building. Crores of rupees have been spent on decorating and beautifying the premises in view of the possible arrival of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Tenders were also issued for this. Despite this, the incident of collapse of part of the main building has raised questions on the quality of construction and repair works.
Opposition raised demand for investigation into the incident
The opposition has targeted the government and the building construction agency regarding this incident and demanded an investigation. RJD MLA Kumar Sarvjeet raised serious questions regarding the security of the assembly building. Complaining to the Speaker of the Assembly, he said that in the morning several MLAs were standing in the portico when a large part of the roof collapsed and fell. He said that many MLAs had a narrow escape.
