Carlos Alcaraz is set to get a kangaroo tattoo to mark his record-breaking Australian Open success. But his parents have never been totally approving of their tennis star son's body art.

At just 22 years old, Alcaraz became the youngest man in history to complete a career Grand Slam in Melbourne. He came from a set down to beat Novak Djokovic 3-1 and added the title to his pair of US Open, Wimbledon and French Open crowns. For his exploits he earned just over £2million. The Spaniard has now confirmed he is set to fulfil a pledge he made before this latest success and get another tattoo, much to his parents' slight concern.

Speaking 12 months ago at the Australian Open before he was triumphant this year and claimed his seventh Grand Slam title, Alcaraz addressed the possibility of getting a tattoo if he were to win. He has ink from some of his previous major wins, a tradition he follows after every success.

Alcaraz admitted that he would get a kangaroo tattooed on his body should he prevail. He has now confirmed that this is still his plan. He said this week: "I already know it's going to be a kangaroo. I just don't know the place. I'm just thinking about the leg but I don't know which calf, whether it will be the right or left one."

His parents are known not to be fans of their son's ink, as he admitted after winning Wimbledon in 2024 that he had somewhat misled them regarding how often he would be getting tattoos. Alcaraz had already been inked after winning at SW19 the year prior.

Nevertheless, he said: "I told my parents just to calm them that it was just the first one in every major. But this is a really big moment. Probably I'm going to put the date of this one next to last year's. This one, I have to talk with them. A little one I can hide."

His tradition began after his debut major win at the US Open in 2022. He got the date of his win, "11.09.22," inked on his left arm. When he won the same competition in 2025, he had the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty added to the same arm.

Alcaraz also has a Wimbledon-themed tattoo, with a strawberry and the date of his 2023 win tattooed just above his right ankle. He added the date of his second win alongside that, presumably after consulting with his parents, a year later.

In 2024, he also had the Eiffel Tower inked on his left leg, along with the date of victory in Paris that year. Now, although his parents evidently aren't exactly pleased, a kangaroo is set to join the other tattoos on Alcaraz's body.

Explaining how he is able to get away with the ink, he told Marca: "I choose a discreet location. I'm not going to get one on my face or in the middle of my thigh, or anything like that. And they're relatively small tattoos, medium-sized. That's why they don't raise any red flags. It's under control."
