New Delhi: Rolls Royce are preparing to launch its first-ever all-electric SUV, which might break cover in the upcoming months, with a global launch scheduled for 2027. It will be the British marque’s second EV and second SUV, and the Rolls-Royce SUV is aimed squarely towards Bentley’s EV debut, slated for 2026.

Rolls-Royce had originally planned to bring the electric SUV in 2025, but plans had to be pushed back.

We have seen a prototype of the Rolls-Royce electric SUV being tested at BMW Group’s proving ground in Sweden, confirming a rather blocky and upright proportions quite similar to the Cullinan, but of cours,e the styling will be different. Much like the Rolls-Royce Spectre, the EV SUV comes with a split-headlight arrangement at the front, featuring segmented daytime running lamps (DRLs) and a larger air dam in the bumper. It also lacks the famous Rolls-Royce ‘Pantheon’ grille design.

The sides are likely to be bosy and the prototype’s low ground clearance makes the profile look much more estate-like than an SUV. It also has prominent roof rails. The back gets mindly angled D-pillar leads for a protruding back end with vertically oriented LED tail-lamps, and there is also a discreet roof spoiler with an integrated stop lamp.

Rolls-Royce electric SUV platform and powertrain

The electric SUV is going be coming on the same ‘Architecture of Luxury’ platform that is used for all other Rolls-Royce models on sale at present. In terms of powertrain, things are not clear yet. Rolls-Royce might use BMW’s newest EV tech, which will debut in the forthcoming Neue Klasse model line, starting with the iX3 SUV.

Compatibility could be an issue, of course, as the Architecture of Luxury is nine years old. There is another option for Rolls-Royce electric to borrow from the Spectre and be powered by a 102 kWh dual-motor setup, which makes 659 bhp and 1,075 Nm of torque and has a claimed WLTP range of 530 km.
