RBI New Rule: In the increasing era of digital transactions, cases of online fraud are also increasing. As the use of mobile banking, UPI and card payments has become easier, new avenues of fraud have also opened up for cyber criminals. meanwhile Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued an important guideline regarding the refund rules to online fraud, due to which it has become necessary for the customers to understand how much amount they can get back in case of fraud.


What is the new rule? (RBI New Rule)


According to RBI guidelines, if a person is cheated online, the responsibility of the bank will depend on the circumstances. In many cases customers receive maximum Refund up to ₹25,000 only Can be recovered, whether the loss is Rs 50 thousand or Rs 1 lakh. This limit is applicable in cases where negligence on the part of the customer is involved or there is delay in filing the complaint.


When will you get the full money?


If the customer informs the bank on time and the investigation proves that the mistake was due to a banking system or technical glitch, the customer can get the entire amount refunded. But if the customer has shared the OTP, password or PIN with anyone, the bank’s liability may be limited.


Time limit for filing complaint


Most important in case of online fraud filing complaint on time. According to RBI, if the customer informs the bank within 3 days, the chances of getting a refund are higher. If there is a delay of 4 to 7 days, the refund limit may be reduced and in many cases the maximum relief is available only up to ₹ 25,000.

  • Do not click on any unknown link

  • Do not share OTP, PIN or password with anyone

  • Use only official apps and websites

  • Be alert for suspicious calls or messages

  • Always keep transaction alerts on
