New Delhi:Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an important bilateral meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Kuala Lumpur. This was his first foreign visit of 2026, which became an opportunity to further strengthen the deep relations between the two countries. While addressing the media, PM Modi emphasized the centuries-old maritime trade and cultural ties between India and Malaysia. People of both the countries are deeply connected to each other’s culture, language and traditions. This relationship is strong not only financially but also at the emotional level.

Strict stance against terrorism

In the press conference after the meeting, PM Modi gave his clear and strong message on global security. He said that no double standards will be tolerated on the issue of terrorism and there will be no compromise in this. Both leaders agreed to enhance anti-terrorism cooperation, share intelligence and strengthen security in the maritime domain. This step is very important for peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

New Consulate

PM Modi announced the inauguration of a new Consulate of India in Malaysia, which will further ease trade and investment. Additionally, progress was made towards implementing UPI in Malaysia. A new audio-visual agreement was also signed in the field of digital technology, which will increase cultural exchange. People of both the countries will come closer through films, music and media.

Roadmap for new partnership in Indo-Pacific

In the meeting, a roadmap for cooperation in emerging areas like semiconductor, fintech and digital economy was prepared. Both the countries emphasized on increasing cooperation in areas like trade, investment, defence, health, agriculture and education. Many agreements were signed, which will give new impetus to economic development and technological progress.

This visit proved to strengthen India’s ‘Act East’ policy and Indo-Pacific vision. This visit of PM Modi has given a new dimension to the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. The warmth and hospitality of the people of Malaysia made this trip memorable.
