News India Live, Digital Desk: Diabetes is a lifestyle disease in which food choices are most important. Often people are confused about whether diabetic patients should consume milk, curd or cheese? According to Ayurveda, dairy products are mucus forming, but if taken in the right way and in the right combination, they can also be beneficial. Mathematics of dairy products in diabetes according to Ayurveda: In Ayurveda, diabetes is linked to ‘Prameh’. Since milk is heavy (guru) and sweet (madhur) in nature, its direct consumption can increase blood sugar. But it can be made safe with some changes:1. Consumption of milk: Combination of turmeric and cinnamon. If you are a diabetic patient, instead of drinking plain milk, boil it by adding turmeric or cinnamon powder to it. Benefit: Turmeric helps in reducing insulin resistance, while cinnamon speeds up the metabolism. Always keep milk skimmed (without cream).2. ‘Buttermilk’ is the nectar instead of curd. Ayurveda advises less consumption of curd in diabetes because it is heavy and aphrodisiac (causing blockage in the veins). Right way: Drink fresh buttermilk instead of curd. Add roasted cumin, black salt and a little asafoetida to it. It improves digestion and keeps the sugar level stable.3. Paneer and Chhena: Raw cheese can be a good source of protein for diabetic patients. However, avoid eating it fried or with heavy spices. According to Ayurveda, fresh chhena extracted at home from low fat milk is a better option. Take special care of these 3 rules. Avoid milk at night: According to Ayurveda, diabetic patients should avoid drinking milk at night as it increases phlegm and can lead to high sugar level in the morning. Evening time (around sunset) is better for this. Do not take adverse diet: Never eat salty things, fruits or fish with milk. This ‘viruddha diet’ produces toxins (Ama) in the body, which can increase the complications of diabetes. Limited quantity of Desi Ghee: Pure A2 cow ghee can be taken in limited quantity, as it increases ojas and gives energy to the body.
