Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested a journalist from Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh for posting objectionable posts against CM Yogi Adityanath. The journalist has been arrested for uploading inflammatory pictures on Facebook. Officials gave this information on Tuesday (February 10, 2026).
According to news agency PTI, police said that a case was registered at the city police station on Monday (February 9, 2026) on the complaint of BJP Hanumanganj Mandal General Secretary Amrish Kumar Pandey. The FIR names a person named Pawan Tiwari under section 196(1)(b) of the Indian Judicial Code (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place, etc.).
Citing the FIR, police said the accused posted an objectionable picture of the UP CM on Facebook on Sunday (February 8, 2026), along with a controversial caption. The complaint alleged that the purpose of the post was to disturb social harmony, spread disturbance and instigate a particular community against the government.
City Police Station SHO Kshitij Tripathi said the accused Mr Tiwari (35) was arrested on Monday (February 9) and sent to jail. He said that Mr Tiwari is a resident of Sukhpura police station area of Ballia district, but currently lives in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, where he works as a journalist.
Tripathi said the accused had gone to attend a wedding in his village when the alleged inflammatory post was uploaded and later went viral. Police said that further legal action is underway in the matter.
