Farhan Akhtar has demanded a substantial compensation from Ranveer Singh for his departure. And this compensation has cost the actor dearly.

When “Don 3” was announced in 2023, Ranveer Singh was finalized for the lead role. The film was to be directed by Farhan Akhtar and produced by Excel Entertainment. However, there have been no updates about the film for almost three years, leading to speculations that “Don 3” may have been shelved. A major update then came out that Ranveer is no longer a part of the project, but now the matter has gone beyond creative differences. Ranveer Singh has to pay ₹40 crore as compensation.
According to reports, ‘Don 3’ was slated to start shooting in 2026, but Ranveer’s exit has caused a huge loss to the production house. According to a report in Variety India, due to the delay in the film’s shoot, Farhan Akhtar’s production house, Excel Entertainment, is now seeking a compensation of Rs 40 crore from Ranveer Singh, which will cover the losses incurred due to delays in development costs, schedule, planning and other commitments.

Media reports claim that the actor is said to be unhappy with the film’s screenplay. He suggested changes to the screenplay several times, but when the final draft was produced his suggestions were not incorporated and he did not like the screenplay. Meanwhile, Farhan Akhtar’s production house says that the pre-production work will begin only after Ranveer Singh agrees.
In fact, last Friday, Ranveer and Excel Entertainment had a two-hour meeting, but there were no concrete results. Both parties continued to discuss responsibility and financial responsibility. As the dispute escalated, the Producers Guild of India (PGI) reportedly stepped in to mediate, hoping that both parties would reach a compromise and avoid further escalation.
