Accident –  A 24-year-old man lost his life after a collision between a motorcycle and a tractor in the Wadgaonsheri area of Pune on Sunday afternoon. The incident has led to a case being filed against the tractor driver by the Airport Police Station.

Collision on City Outskirts Turns Fatal

The deceased has been identified as Hariba Bansilal Bhalerao. According to police officials, the accident occurred on February 8, 2026, at around 2 pm when Bhalerao was travelling as a pillion rider on a two-wheeler driven by his friend, Praveen Gokul Naik.

The two were reportedly heading out of a city road stretch in Wadgaonsheri when a tractor allegedly struck their vehicle. Authorities said the tractor was moving at a high speed at the time of the impact. The force of the collision caused both riders to fall and sustain injuries.

Complaint Filed at Airport Police Station

Naik, who was riding the motorcycle, survived the crash but suffered injuries. After receiving medical attention, he approached the Airport Police Station and lodged a formal complaint detailing the sequence of events leading to the accident.

Based on his statement, police registered a case against the tractor driver under relevant sections of the law related to rash and negligent driving. Officials confirmed that the accused has been identified as Venkatesh Lokesh Rathod.

Victim Succumbs to Injuries in Hospital

Bhalerao sustained critical injuries in the crash and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries, police said. His death has added to growing concerns about road safety and traffic management in rapidly developing areas of Pune.

Medical authorities conducted necessary procedures following his passing, and the body was later handed over to family members after formalities were completed.

Driver Detained, Investigation Underway

Following the incident, police detained Rathod for questioning and served him a notice as part of the legal process. Officials stated that further investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances that led to the crash.

Police Sub-Inspector Kshirsagar is leading the inquiry. Investigators are examining witness statements, vehicle conditions, and other available evidence to establish accountability. Authorities are also reviewing whether traffic violations or negligence played a direct role in the fatal collision.

The accident has once again drawn attention to safety standards on busy suburban roads in Pune, particularly in areas witnessing rapid urban expansion and increased vehicular movement. Law enforcement agencies have reiterated the need for adherence to traffic regulations by all motorists, including operators of heavy vehicles such as tractors.

Officials urged drivers to exercise caution, maintain controlled speeds, and remain vigilant, especially in mixed-traffic zones where two-wheelers and larger vehicles frequently share narrow stretches of road.
