Actor Sonu Sood has publicly come out in support of Rajpal Yadav, sharing a strong message on his Instagram story amid the actor’s ongoing legal and financial troubles. Sood confirmed that Rajpal Yadav will be part of his upcoming film and urged the Hindi film industry to stand together in difficult times.
In his Instagram story, Sonu Sood wrote in full:
“Rajpal Yadav is a gifted actor who has given years of unforgettable work to our industry. Sometimes life turns unfair, not because of talent, but because timing can be brutal. He will be part of my film, and I believe this is the moment for all of us… producers, directors, colleagues to stand together. A small signing amount, adjustable against future work, is not charity, it’s dignity. When one of our own is going through a tough phase, the industry must remind him he’s not alone. This is how we show we are more than just an industry.”
Sood’s message comes at a time when Rajpal Yadav is facing the final phase of a long-running legal dispute that dates back to 2010. The actor had borrowed ₹5 crore from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his film Ata Pata Laapata. After the film failed at the box office, Yadav reportedly slipped into financial distress, making repayment difficult. Several cheques issued towards clearing the loan later bounced, leading to legal action under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
In April 2018, a magistrate’s court convicted Rajpal Yadav and his wife under Section 138 of the Act and sentenced them to six months’ imprisonment. Despite multiple appeals, the case continued for years, with the outstanding amount reportedly rising to nearly ₹9 crore, even after partial repayments, including around ₹75 lakh paid in 2025.
On February 4, 2026, the matter reached a critical point when Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma rejected Yadav’s final plea seeking a one-week extension to arrange funds, observing that repeated leniency could not be extended regardless of public stature. The court directed the actor to surrender without further delay.
Against this backdrop, Sonu Sood’s Instagram story has drawn widespread attention, framing the issue not just as a legal battle but as a moment of reflection for the film industry on solidarity, dignity and standing by its own.
