T20WorldCup – The Netherlands delivered a composed all-round performance to secure a convincing seven-wicket victory over Namibia in their Group A encounter of the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday.

Fast-bowling all-rounder Bas de Leede emerged as the central figure in the contest, producing a match-winning unbeaten 72 while also claiming two crucial wickets earlier in the evening. In doing so, he became the first Netherlands player to register both a half-century and two wickets in the same T20 World Cup fixture.
Chasing a competitive target of 157, the Dutch side relied on de Leede’s calculated aggression. His 48-ball knock, which included five boundaries and four sixes, came at an impressive strike rate of 150. He mixed power with placement, ensuring Namibia’s bowlers were never able to build sustained pressure.
The Netherlands’ pursuit did not begin smoothly. Max O’Dowd struggled to find rhythm and departed early after mistiming an attempted stroke to mid-on off Bernard Scholtz. However, Michael Levitt quickly shifted the momentum.
Levitt attacked from the outset, striking three sixes and a four in a brisk 28 off 15 deliveries. His counterattack gave the innings early impetus before he fell to Ruben Trumpelmann, slicing a delivery to the infield.
By that stage, de Leede had already signaled his intentions with a commanding six over long-on. He soon found a steady partner in Colin Ackermann, and together they built the platform that would ultimately define the match.
The 70-run stand between de Leede and Ackermann proved decisive. Both batters showed discipline against spin while capitalising on loose deliveries. Namibia’s fielding lapse further compounded their difficulties when Ackermann was dropped on 14 by Louren Steenkamp in the ninth over.
Ackermann responded positively, striking a towering six over midwicket off young Max Heingo. De Leede matched that intent, dispatching Gerhard Erasmus for a six to push the Netherlands past the 100-run mark and later sending Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton into the stands again.
Although Ackermann was eventually dismissed for 32, the required rate was firmly under control. Namibia’s bowlers attempted variations in pace and length, but de Leede maintained composure, adapting efficiently to each challenge.
De Leede brought up his half-century in style, launching a straight six before following it with successive boundaries through sharp strokeplay. His measured approach ensured there were no late complications.
Captain Scott Edwards contributed an unbeaten 18 from nine balls, adding the finishing touches with a boundary off Trumpelmann and a well-timed six over midwicket. De Leede fittingly sealed the match, striking Loftie-Eaton for another six and then guiding the ball past point to complete the chase with two overs remaining.
Earlier, Namibia had posted 156 for 8 in their 20 overs. Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton top-scored with 42, while Jan Frylinck added 30 to provide stability. However, the Dutch bowling attack kept regular checks on scoring. Logan van Beek returned economical figures of 2 for 13, and de Leede’s 2 for 20 helped prevent Namibia from accelerating in the closing stages.
Despite moments of disciplined bowling, Namibia struggled to break the crucial middle-order partnership and could not apply consistent pressure once de Leede settled in.
The result strengthens the Netherlands’ position in Group A and highlights their growing confidence in the tournament, while Namibia will look to regroup ahead of their next fixture.
