Layoff News GCCs : The impact of layoffs is being seen in the country’s Global Capability Centers (GCCs). GCCs India has emerged as a major hub of global automotive R&D and software development. However, now AUMOVIO has raised questions about rising costs and productivity in Multinational GCC by revealing plans to lay off 1,000 R&D employees in India, that too at a time when companies are continuing to bet on software- mobility and Advanced Automotive Tech.
The company said the change is aimed at increasing its focus on R&D, prioritizing software-based vehicles, strengthening technology partnerships and increasing efficiency across all its engineering units. People familiar with the process had previously indicated that India’s R&D teams were also facing significant cutbacks.
The reaction came as sources indicated that India-based R&D teams were likely to suffer significant losses under the sweeping restructuring.
AUMOVIO has about 6 thousand employees in the country, so layoff of about 1 thousand means that about 16-17% of the employees are going to be laid off. The company’s new strategy will impact around 4 thousand employees across the world in India, Singapore, Romania, Serbia, Germany and Mexico.
Formerly part of automotive supplier Continental, AUMOVIO, known globally for tyres, braking systems, electronics and assistance technologies, now manufactures sensors, comfort systems and AI-powered advanced driver assistance systems aimed at improving driver safety.
AUMOVIO plans to reduce its R&D expenditure to less than 10 percent of sales by 2027, from 11.9 percent in the third quarter of 2025.
