Holika Dahan 2026 Date: The festival of Holi, celebrated every year in the month of Phalgun, is considered a symbol of happiness, colors and mutual love. But there is a lot of confusion among the people regarding the date of Holika Dahan and Holi in the year 2026. The main reason for this is being said to be Bhadra period and the first lunar eclipse of the year. According to astrologers, keeping these two astronomical conditions in mind, this time the auspicious time of Holika Dahan has changed slightly.
According to the calendar, Holika Dahan is performed on the full moon day of Phalgun month. But this time, due to the influence of Bhadra on the evening of March 2, burning in the evening is considered prohibited. Also, the first lunar eclipse of the year is taking place on March 3, 2026, due to which the rules of Sutak period and eclipse will have to be followed.
According to Panchang and astrological calculations, this time Holika Dahan will be performed on the night of March 2, 2026. However, the auspicious time will be in late night i.e. Brahma Muhurta period of 3rd March. According to astrologers, burning Holika on the night of March 3 from 12:50 AM to 02:02 AM is considered most auspicious. By burning Holika during this time, the blame of Bhadra and eclipse does not arise and one gets the full results of the puja.
In Hindu religion, special attention is paid to Bhadra period before doing any auspicious work. It is believed that auspicious work done during Bhadra period can give inauspicious results. This time, due to the influence of Bhadra on March 2, burning Holika during the day or in the evening is not considered auspicious. For this reason, astrologers are calling late night time more auspicious.
According to the calendar, the first lunar eclipse of the year is going to occur on March 3, 2026. According to religious beliefs, it is not considered appropriate to do any auspicious or festive work on the day of eclipse. For this reason, this time Holi of colors will be played on 4 March 2026.
Holika Dahan is considered a symbol of the victory of good over evil. According to the legend, to kill Prahlad, a devotee of Lord Vishnu, his aunt Holika had tried to sit in the fire, but by the grace of God, Prahlad was saved safely and Holika was burnt to ashes. Since then, every year by burning Holika, the message of end of evil and victory of good is given.
