BCCI Rule on Family: In a strong move to prioritize preparations for the T20 WC 2026, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has refused to allow Suryakumar Yadav’s team to stay with their families during the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Despite the tournament being held on home soil, the BCCI is strictly implementing a disciplinary policy introduced in January 2025 to ensure complete concentration during ICC events.
Why did BCCI refuse?
BCCI The refusal is due to a major cultural change aimed at eliminating distractions. According to the report, the decision was influenced by what happened during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where some players reportedly skipped tactical meetings and planning sessions due to personal commitments.
To prevent this from happening again, BCCI is making it necessary to create a “team-first” environment. While the Board allows families to travel on longer tours (45+ days), the T20 World Cup 2026 schedule does not meet the requirement for large families to be together under the current framework.
new rulebook
BCCI has made some strict guidelines which every player will have to follow during the T20 World Cup 2026 tournament:
Family Duration: On tours of 45 days or more, families are allowed to stay for a maximum of two weeks. For short periods, the limit is only one week.
To abstain: Wives, fiancees and children are not allowed to stay in the same hotel rooms with the players.
Travel Mandate: Every player will have to travel in the team bus. Private vehicles and separate travel arrangements, even for local home games, are strictly prohibited.
Restrictions on personal staff: Individual managers, agents and private chefs are not allowed to come to the team hotel and will have to stay in separate areas.
Financial Liability: Any extra expenses incurred for family travel outside the permitted time will have to be paid by the player himself.
focus on defense
India has started its campaign with a win against USA, BCCI is leaving no stone unturned to save the title. By implementing these “lockdown” measures, the board hopes to foster greater coordination and unity in the dressing room, ensuring the focus remains on lifting the trophy once again.
