To solve this major problem of passengers, IRCTC has launched a new and very useful feature ‘Resume/Retry Booking’ on its iPay platform.

What exactly was the problem?

When a passenger books a ticket, the transaction often ‘fails’ due to an error in the payment gateway or the bank’s server. In such a situation, the money would be deducted from the passenger’s account, but the ticket would not be confirmed. Not only would the passenger’s time be wasted, but they would have to wait at least 3 to 7 working days to get back the deducted amount. It used to be a big financial problem for passengers who bought tickets on time.

How will the new feature work?

According to IRCTC, now there is no reason for passengers to panic even if the ticket booking fails. If the amount is deducted and the ticket is not booked, the passenger can re-book the ticket on the same day using the amount deducted. No need to wait for refund With the new facility, the passenger will not need to pay again and again. The ticketing process can be completed by ‘resuming’ the already deducted amount. This facility will be available only when the amount of the second ticket booking is equal to the amount of the first failed transaction.

Who will benefit?

This facility is available to passengers using IRCTC’s official iPay payment gateway. This system has been operational since February 10, 2026. Passengers can avail this feature using any of the mediums like Card, UPI, Net Banking or Digital Wallet. In case the ticket cannot be booked even in the second attempt, the amount of the passenger will be refunded to their original account as per rules.
