BCCI central contracts: Cricket legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have got a big blow in the new central contract of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), as both have been reduced in grading. The new list has 30 players divided into three categories, as the board has reportedly scrapped the top-tier grade A+ bracket that existed in the previous cycle.
Downgrade of Kohli and Rohit
Kohli and Rohit, who were earlier part of the elite Grade A+ category, have now come to Grade B. This change is expected to affect their annual retainership earnings. Under the earlier contract structure, Grade A+ players got Rs 7 crore every year, while Grade B ones got Rs 3 crore. Although BCCI The IPL has not yet officially confirmed the changed retainership figures for the new cycle, but the downgrade means that the salaries of both the senior players will be cut by several crores of rupees.
Why were both of them demoted?
The main reason for his demotion seems to be his less participation in all formats. Both Kohli and Rohit have taken retirement from T20 International and Test cricket and are now available only for One Day International. Multi-format participation has been given importance in the contract policy of the board, due to which he has been kept in the lower grade. India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav has also been included in Grade B because he also represents the country mostly in the same format.
A look at BCCI’s new central contract
The new central contract, Grade A, includes Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja. Grade B includes many well-known names, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Washington Sundar, KL Rahul, Mohammed Siraj, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer.
Grade C includes Akshar Patel, Tilak Verma, Rinku Singh, Shivam Dubey, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Dhruv Jurel, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakraborty, Nitish Reddy, Abhishek Sharma, Sai Sudarshan, Ravi Bishnoi and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
