Lucknow, Read: Defeating host UP Karam once again at home, Naval Tata Grassroots Odisha (ONT) won the title of 36th Karam All India KD Singh Babu Subjunior (Boys Under-14) Prize Hockey Tournament for the second consecutive time. In a thrilling final match, Odisha defeated UP Karam 2-0. The winning Odisha team was awarded a prize money of Rs 2 lakh and the runner-up UP Karam was awarded Rs 1.5 lakh.

In the closing ceremony organized after the final match played on Padmashree Mohammad Shahid Hockey Astro Turf located at Vijayant Khand Mini Stadium, the chief guest Kavita Nigam, CHRO of Kamar Group of Companies, honored the players. On this occasion, five-time MLA Alambadi (Nizamabad, Azamgarh), Olympian Syed Ali, Sujit Kumar, former SAI director Rachna Govil, former international hockey player Manju Bisht, Imranul Haq, Rajesh Tandon, Inayat Ullah, Dhirendra Singh, Khurshid, Manoj, Gurutosh Pandey and other dignitaries were present.



The competition was tough between the teams of Odisha and UP Karam, who came face to face in the final for the second consecutive year. UP Karam’s team, which performed well throughout the tournament, could not perform as expected under the pressure of the final. The first quarter remained goalless. In the second quarter, Odisha adopted an aggressive stance and Abhishek Soreng (jersey number 11) converted the penalty corner in the 21st minute into a brilliant goal to give the team a 1-0 lead.

In the third quarter, UP Karam tried hard to equalize, but they did not succeed in front of the strong defense of Odisha. In the 39th minute, Abhishek Soreng once again scored his and the team’s second goal by hitting the penalty corner accurately. Even in the fourth quarter, UP Karam could not score any goal and the match remained in the name of Odisha 2-0.


Round glass third place

In the match played for the third place, Round Glass Hockey Academy defeated Punjab Institute of Mohali 3-1. Round Glass was given a prize money of Rs 1 lakh and Punjab team was given a prize money of Rs 50 thousand.

Everyone was given a cash prize of Rs 2,000 each in the memory of Kishori Lal Shah.
