The Namibia cricket team is unhappy with the International Cricket Council (ICC). Captain Gerhard Erasmus expressed his frustration after his side failed to receive a chance to train under lights, even though they have been practicing at the Arun Jaitley Stadium since February 8.

Namibia began their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against the Netherlands in Delhi on February 10. The team started their training session at 2 PM IST for a match that would begin at 11 AM IST. The team needed to practice at night because they had an important match against India on February 12.

The ICC, however, did not allot them an under-the-lights session on February 11, just a day before the India vs Namibia encounter.India conducted training sessions from 6 to 9 PM IST on February 10 and 11, but Erasmus raised the question about why Canada received the night slot instead. Canada is scheduled to play against UAE in Delhi on February 13.

Erasmus commented: “Yeah, we haven’t been given night training before this game. I don’t know why. I think India has two-night trainings, and I see outside that Canada is going to have a night training now. So, make of that what you want, but we’ll just rock up and do our Namibian way, which is to fight.”

Erasmus explained that Namibia does not possess any floodlit stadiums in their home country, which restricts their ability to practice day-night matches. The majority of their players will face challenges because they need to develop their skills in batting, bowling, and fielding during nighttime conditions. The team will face new difficulties when they compete against India in an evening match.

Erasmus added: “We haven’t got any lights in Namibia. Infrastructure-wise, it’s probably the challenge for us. So yeah, it’s not a casual thing. Barring the guys who have played in the Nepal Premier League, ILT20, and the World Cups we have played, you don’t get accustomed to lights and train under it very often.”
