Arrest Follows Complaint by Injured Driver

The arrest was made on Thursday after an official complaint was filed by 18-year-old Mohd Taufeeq, who was among those hurt in the incident. Taufeeq, an e-rickshaw driver, approached authorities alleging that Mishra was responsible for the crash that occurred on Sunday afternoon.

Confirming the development, Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal said the accused would be presented before a local court shortly after his detention. Investigators moved forward with the arrest after reviewing statements and preliminary evidence collected over the past few days.

High-End Sports Car Involved in Gwaltoli Incident

The accident took place around 3 pm in the busy Gwaltoli locality, a well-known commercial and residential area of Kanpur. According to police officials, a Lamborghini Revuelto collided with pedestrians and other vehicles along the stretch, causing panic and injuries.

Witnesses at the scene described moments of chaos as the high-performance vehicle struck multiple targets before coming to a halt. Several injured individuals were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Authorities have not reported any fatalities linked to the crash.

The involvement of a luxury sports car in a densely populated area has drawn significant public attention, with questions being raised about road safety and responsible driving in urban spaces.

Defense Claims Another Person Was Driving

The case took an unexpected turn on Wednesday when a man named Mohan came forward claiming he was the designated driver of the vehicle at the time of the collision. He asserted that he, not Mishra, was behind the wheel when the accident occurred.

However, police officials dismissed this version of events after examining available evidence. Investigators maintained that technical inputs and witness accounts gathered during the probe pointed to Shivam Mishra as the individual driving the car when it struck pedestrians and vehicles.

Authorities have indicated that the investigation included reviewing surveillance footage, statements from those present at the scene, and other supporting material. Based on these findings, they concluded that Mishra was operating the vehicle during the incident.

Legal Proceedings Underway

Law enforcement officials said the arrest was carried out in accordance with legal procedure and that further action would depend on court proceedings. The charges are expected to relate to rash and negligent driving causing injuries, though detailed sections have not yet been publicly disclosed.

Meanwhile, counsel representing Mishra reportedly argued that the complainant was not inclined to pursue the matter aggressively. Despite this, police proceeded with the arrest, emphasizing that public safety concerns and the seriousness of the allegations warranted action.

The incident has sparked broader discussions within the city about enforcement of traffic laws and accountability in cases involving high-end vehicles. Residents in the Gwaltoli area have called for stricter monitoring to prevent similar occurrences on crowded roads.

As the case moves into the judicial phase, authorities have reiterated that the investigation was guided by available evidence and due process. Further developments are expected once the matter is taken up in court.
