Shooting – Authorities are continuing their investigation after gunfire erupted Thursday afternoon at a shopping center in Evergreen, Colorado, leaving the suspected shooter dead from what officials described as a self-inflicted wound.

The incident unfolded around 4:30 p.m. at the Evergreen Strip Mall, specifically inside a health clinic located in the 32000 block of Ellingwood Trail. The shopping complex sits near the intersection of Bergan Parkway and Evergreen Parkway, a busy area for local residents and commuters.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded quickly after reports of shots being fired within the commercial property. By the time law enforcement secured the scene, the suspected gunman had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officials confirmed that no other individuals were injured during the episode. Although no victims were found, visible damage was evident inside the building. Multiple bullet holes were observed in walls throughout the clinic, and shattered glass was reported in several areas.
In a public update shared on social media, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office stated that there were no shooting victims at the location and that investigators remained on site to process evidence. Authorities emphasized that additional updates would be provided as more details become available.
Law enforcement officials have not yet released the identity or age of the deceased individual. Investigators are working to determine the motive behind the shooting and whether the suspect had any prior connection to the clinic or surrounding businesses.
As part of standard safety protocol, officers evacuated the strip mall shortly after arriving at the scene. Nearby businesses were temporarily closed while deputies conducted a thorough search of the premises to ensure there was no ongoing threat to the public.
The heavy police presence prompted the temporary closure of Evergreen Parkway, also known as Highway 74, as authorities secured the area. Traffic disruptions extended for several hours, affecting both local drivers and commuters heading toward Interstate 70.
Later in the evening, officials scaled back the closure and established a detour route. Motorists were directed to use Bergan Parkway as an alternate path to access Interstate 70 and surrounding neighborhoods. Traffic gradually resumed once investigators determined the scene was stable.
Deputies and forensic teams remained at the location for several hours collecting evidence and documenting the damage. Authorities have not indicated whether the shooter acted alone or if the incident was targeted, but they confirmed there is no continuing threat to the community.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office continues to examine surveillance footage and interview potential witnesses as part of the investigation. Officials have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
The shooting has raised concerns among residents in the typically quiet Evergreen community, though authorities have reassured the public that the situation was contained swiftly.
Further updates are expected as investigators complete their review of the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
