Speaking on the podcast Relationshit Advice, Shanaya opened up about what she called the “scariest” chapter of her love life. She recounted being on an international vacation with her then-boyfriend, convinced that everything between them was perfect. “I was thinking, ‘This is it. It’s too good to be true. What a life, wow. This is the best relationship,’” she shared.

What started as an ordinary evening quickly spiraled into a moment of truth for Shanaya. While she and her boyfriend were getting ready for dinner, he asked her to arrange a cab. Her phone had run out of battery, so she decided to use his, a small decision that soon uncovered a shocking reality. As she unlocked his phone, a message from his ex-girlfriend flashed across the screen. Her curiosity turned to disbelief as she opened the chat and saw what she later described as inappropriate messages. With each scroll, more secrets surfaced, similar exchanges with four other women. “The second girl popped up, the third girl, the fourth, the fifth. There were five girls he was messaging,” Shanaya revealed, adding that he was acting as though he wasn’t in a relationship.

The situation only worsened the more Shanaya uncovered. As she kept scrolling, she realized the betrayal ran deeper than she’d imagined — her boyfriend had been chatting with several other women. “The second girl popped up, the third girl, the fourth, the fifth. There were five girls he was messaging,” she said, explaining that he behaved as if he weren’t in a relationship. Shocked and unsure how to react, Shanaya captured screenshots of the messages and shared them with a few close friends on Snapchat, hoping for guidance. One of them was actor Ananya Panday, who urged her to leave immediately and come over since they were nearby. But being in another country, Shanaya confessed, left her feeling isolated and powerless.

"My friend, Ananya (Panday) was like, ‘Catch a train and just come here.’ We were pretty close by… I was like, ‘I can’t just catch a fucking train, what do I do?’ This whole dinner, I’m pretending like everything’s okay," Shanaya said.

Shanaya revealed that for three days after discovering the messages, she kept up appearances, acting as though everything was fine. Even through dinners and outings, she concealed her emotions, processing the shock in silence. Her boyfriend eventually noticed something was off and tried to make peace by surprising her with an expensive pair of earrings. Shanaya confronted him, wryly calling them “guilty earrings.” Though their relationship soon ended, she admitted she still owns and occasionally wears them, laughing that she had “earned” them. When questioned about his actions, her ex allegedly minimized the situation, claiming it was “just messaging” and that nothing physical occurred. But as Shanaya firmly stated, for her, that still counted as emotional cheating, a line that had been unmistakably crossed.

On the work front, Shanaya Kapoor is currently occupied with the promotions of her new film ‘Tu Yaa Main’, in which she features alongside Adarsh Gourav . Directed by Bejoy Nambiar, the movie is set to release on February 13, coinciding with the launch of Vishal Bhardwaj ’s ‘O Romeo’, starring Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri.
