The disappearance of 22-year-old Indian student Saket Srinivasiah, who was studying in California, America, had shocked the entire country. After continuous search appeal from family and friends for the last 6 days, his body has finally been recovered today. The Indian Consulate in San Francisco has officially confirmed this and assured the family of all possible help. The process of bringing the mortal remains to India has also started.
Saket was last seen on February 9, about 1 kilometer away from the campus of the University of California, Berkeley. After this no trace of him was found. A large-scale search operation was carried out in which the police, local community and the Indian community participated.
Saket’s body was recovered near Lake Anza on 4 February. However, it was formally identified and confirmed by the Indian Consulate today on 15 February. Earlier, Saket’s bag was found in a house near a park, which contained his passport, laptop and other important items.
Saket was originally from Karnataka and at the age of just 22, he dreamed of pursuing higher education in America. He was pursuing a master’s degree in chemical and biomolecular engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. Before this, he had completed his studies from IIT Madras and also studied at Sri Vani Education Center in Bengaluru.
The Indian Embassy has expressed deep condolences on this tragic incident and has assured immediate assistance to the family. The embassy statement said that the embassy is ready to provide full assistance to the family in every way. We will talk about local police and administration. Along with this, we will try to send him back to India as soon as possible.
In the last few years, cases of disappearance or unusual death of Indian students studying in America have come to light rapidly. This incident in Saket has also become a part of this series, which has increased the concern among the students studying abroad and their families.
