In a rain-affected match in Sydney, India achieved a 21-run victory over Australia using the DLS method. After bowling out the Australian team for 133 runs, India quickly reached 50 runs for the loss of one wicket in just 5.1 overs before rain interrupted play on Sunday. Arundhati Reddy was the standout performer for India, taking four wickets for 22 runs, effectively dismantling Australia's middle order. Renuka Singh and Deepti Sharma also contributed by claiming crucial wickets. Shafali Verma scored a rapid 21 runs off 11 balls, while Smriti Mandhana remained unbeaten on 16, putting India well ahead of the DLS target of 29 when the match was halted. This victory gives India a 1-0 lead in the multi-format series, providing a significant boost in momentum.

Reddy's Impressive Bowling Performance

Australia struggled after being asked to bat first, managing only 133 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Wareham provided some resistance with decent starts, but none of the other Australian batters could make a significant impact. Wareham was the top scorer with a quick 30 runs off 19 balls.

India's Aggressive Start

India's response was aggressive, with Verma and Mandhana playing freely during the power-play. Once they settled, they began to dominate the bowlers. Sophie Molineux ended the opening partnership by dismissing Verma, but the damage was already done. Jemimah Rodrigues continued the aggressive approach with a few boundaries, ensuring India maintained a comfortable lead over the DLS target before rain ultimately concluded the match.

Upcoming Series Decider in Canberra

The two teams will face off again in the series decider on Thursday at Manuka Oval in Canberra.
