Leeds boss Daniel Farke says he is dreaming of writing a “very special” chapter of FA Cup history after a dramatic penalty shoot-out win.
The Premier League giants survived an almighty scare at St Andrew’s before Leeds hero Sean Longstaff hit the decisive spot kick after an epic fourth round tie.
Farke said: “You have to stay on it, you have to stay focused and it’s beneficial for the club and the FA Cup is always a chance and it’s the biggest cup in the whole of Europe.
“There’s always a chance to write a chapter of very special history and I don’t say it’s realistic to speak about it right now but in games like this, difficult away games, scruffy games, you have to find a way to get into the next round.

“That is exactly when you try to write history, these are exactly the games when you think; “OK, it all started in this game.’ It maybe started at Derby County, then away to Birmingham and beyond to the cup final as you try to write another chapter of cup history.
“We have to take it step-by-step. Maybe it’s bit unrealistic to dream of playing at Wembley but I’m a believer in cup competitions and I want to go to the next round.
“Even when you win a scruffy game, it’s good for the confidence and the mentality of the group. There’s positives for the whole group. Each and every bit of excitement is always good and a cup run is always excitement for the supporters and also for the players.”
It was tough on Birmingham who pushed Leeds all of the way after Patrick Roberts’ defected 89th minute leveller sent the tie into extra time and Blues substitute Ibrahim Osman even hit the post in the 96th minute.

Birmingham boss Chris Davies said: “I think the players should be proud because I think we deserved to win. We had all the right, fight and determination that we want.
“We dominated the game. We played with a fluidity and rhythm. We should have been up at half time but we threw everything at it in the last ten minutes and we did all that.
“When it’s penalties, you just have to execute as many as you can but unfortunately it just wasn’t to be.”
