A "serious" collision involving two cars has brought the M6 to a complete standstill and has plunged the major UK motorway into chaos, with queues already seen snaking down the carriageway.

The M6 has been closed down in both directions in Lancashire between Junction 32 (M55 interchange) and Junction 33 (Galgate) following the smash. Police, paramedics, and fire crews are all in attendance, with National Highways confirming the closure to make room for emergency teams as they carry out life-saving work.

Lancashire Police said two teenagers suffered "serious injuries" after a three-vehicle collision. Police also said they are now looking to trace the driver of an HGV involved in the collision.
