Greater Noida-based Galgotias University faced severe criticism on social media over allegations that a Chinese robotic dog displayed during the India AI Impact Summit held in Delhi was described as its own product. After the controversy escalated, the university issued an official statement clarifying that it never claimed to have developed this technology.

In fact, a video went viral on social media, in which during the summit, a woman was heard saying that the Center of Excellence of Galgotias has developed a robodog named “ORIAN”. While explaining the features of the robot in the video, it was described as an achievement of the university. After this, many users alleged that the institute presented imported technology as indigenous innovation.

Actually, the robodog displayed is the ‘Unitree Go2’ model manufactured by Chinese robotics company Unitree, whose online price is said to be around Rs 2 to 3 lakh. The university said in its statement that this robodog has been purchased from Unity and is being used as a teaching tool for students.

The university said in a statement on is,”

However, the university’s claim was fact-checked by a community note on X, stating that the institute’s statement is misleading. “He has named the robot ‘Orion’ and clearly claims that it was created by his team,” the note claimed.

In its clarification, the university said that innovation and education cannot be limited by boundaries and it will continue to bring in the best technologies from across the world to give practical experience to the students. The institute said that its aim is to introduce students to cutting-edge technologies so that they can understand, question and further improve them.

The university said, “Innovation has no limits. Learning should also have no limits.” And added that its aim is to inspire the youth to dream big and develop world-class solutions from India. Currently, the issue remains a subject of debate due to the university’s actions on social media, with neither side ready to accept the university’s explanation and critics raising questions about transparency and presentation.
