The Indian Cricket Council has penalized the Scotland opener George Munsey for smashing his helmet during the match against Nepal on February 17 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. During the Group C match, Mumsey was visibly frustrated after he was dismissed in the 10th over. He took off his helmet and smashed it on the advertising panel. and walked back.
According to the ICC Code of Conduct, Munsey broke Article 2.2 meant for players and player support personnel. It deals with any kind of abusing cricket equipment, clothing, or other staff on the field. On February 18, ICC issued an official statement saying,
“Munsey was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.'"
It further added,
“Munsey admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by David Gilbert of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing. On-field umpires K.N. Ananthapadmanabhan and Alex Wharf, third umpire Adrian Holdstock, and fourth umpire Langton Rusere leveled the charge."
Any level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct means the accused player will have to pay a maximum of 50% of the match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
