Gandhinagar, 18 February 2026: : Commonwealth Games are to be held in the courtyard of Ahmedabad in the year 2030, and preparations for the same have also been started. Then, in the budget for the year 2026-27 presented in the Assembly today, Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai has allocated Rs 1278 crore to make Ahmedabad an Olympic ready city.
Today, on the third day of Gujarat Assembly session, Finance Minister Kanu Desai presented the budget for the year 2026-2027. The Finance Minister has set a new milestone by presenting the budget for the fifth consecutive time. Gujarat’s Vikrami budget of Rs 4,08,053 crore was announced. The Finance Minister has paid special attention to sports in the budget. Gujarat is no longer only the center of trade and industry, but is also ready to leave its indelible mark on the world sports map. There has been a big boost in the global prestige of the state after Gujarat hosting the next Commonwealth Games 2030. To make this grand plan successful, a provision of Rs 1278 crore has been made for the ambitious project to develop Ahmedabad as an ‘Olympic Ready City’. The main objective of this fund is to make Ahmedabad an international class sports hub.
In the planning to make Ahmedabad ‘Olympic ready’, special attention will be given to the following things. In which new sports complexes and stadiums will be constructed as per international standards. Modern metro rail and bus transport facilities will be strengthened for the convenience of athletes and spectators. The city will be rejuvenated with renovation of roads, lighting and development of tourist places.
Commonwealth Games is not limited to just sports, but it will give a new impetus to the economy of Gujarat. Thousands of new jobs will be created in construction, hospitality (hotel), transport and service sectors. With global publicity, Gujarat will become a center of attraction for foreign investors. The arrival of sports lovers and tourists will give a big boost to the state’s tourism industry. The facilities created through this project will not be limited to just sports, but will prove to be long-term infrastructure for the coming generations.”
It is noteworthy that with this project worth ₹ 1278 crore, Ahmedabad will now emerge as a global sports city. With the organization of Commonwealth Games 2030, Gujarat’s prestige will increase at the world level and the young players of the state will get international class facilities in their own backyard.
