A big diplomatic message has come out from New Delhi. PM Narendra Modi has sent a congratulatory letter to the new Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Tariq Rahman. This letter has come at a time when there is intense discussion about giving a new direction to the relations between the two countries. This letter was handed over through Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

Congratulations on victory and mention of confidence

In his letter, PM Modi heartily congratulated Bangladesh Nationalist Party on its election victory. He wrote that this victory is a proof of public trust and confidence in the leadership.

Modi said he hoped that Tariq Rehman would lead the country towards peace, stability and prosperity. This message was simple and straightforward, in which along with political formality, familiarity is also reflected.

Emphasis on shared history and cultural ties

In the letter, PM Modi described India and Bangladesh as “close neighbours” and mentioned their shared history and cultural connect.

He said that the aspirations of the people of both the countries are the same – peace, progress and prosperity. In such a situation, coordination in development priorities can become a strong foundation for future partnership.

Focus on business, technology and connectivity

Modi expressed his desire to further strengthen bilateral relations. He talked about working together in areas like connectivity, trade, technology, education, skill development, energy and healthcare.

To put it in desi style, “If both walk together, the path will be easy.” As fast growing economies, India and Bangladesh can support each other’s development.

At the end of the letter, PM Modi invited Tariq Rehman, his wife Dr. Zubaida Rehman and daughter Jaima to visit India.

He wrote that he would receive a warm welcome in India. Also wished good health and continued progress of the people of Bangladesh.
