New Delhi: MakeMyTrip has partnered with OpenAI to bring more artificial intelligence features into its travel booking platform. The company said it will use OpenAI’s APIs inside its app to improve Myra, its in-house trip planning assistant. The goal is to make travel planning feel more like a natural conversation rather than a simple search.

Through this collaboration, users will be able to type or speak their travel ideas to Myra and receive structured options for flights, hotels and other services. MakeMyTrip says this step is meant to help people move from casual travel discussions to actual bookings more easily.

Myra to handle conversational travel planning

MakeMyTrip said the new integration will help Myra respond better to detailed travel questions. Instead of users entering fixed search filters, they can describe what they want in simple language. The assistant will then suggest suitable options that are ready for booking.

According to the company, this approach is designed to capture travellers who start planning with open-ended queries. It also reflects a shift from relying mainly on traditional search traffic to playing a more active role in AI-based travel discovery.

OpenAI stated that its technology is being used to make trip planning interactive. The system can shape recommendations and itineraries based on what users say they need, making the experience closer to a real conversation.

Strong usage across languages and smaller cities

MakeMyTrip said it has been investing in AI and machine learning tools for several years. These systems are used across different stages of the travel journey, including search, booking and after-sales support. Myra itself runs on the company’s own models built using large language systems and travel-related data.

The assistant currently handles over 50,000 conversations every day. It works in multiple languages such as Bengali, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu and English.

The company also said that more than 45 percent of the queries come from Tier-2 and smaller cities. Voice-based interactions are particularly higher in non-metro areas, showing that many users prefer speaking instead of typing while planning their trips.
