Chennai: Afghanistan, powered by a belligerent unbeaten half-century by opener Ibrahim Zadran and a fine bowling display by Mohammad Nabi, defeated Canada by 82 runs in an inconsequential T20 World Cup Group D match Thursday.

Sent in to bat, Zadran blazed an unbeaten 95 off 56 balls, striking seven fours and five sixes, and forged a 95-run third-wicket partnership with Sediqullah Atal (44 off 32) to power Afghanistan to a formidable 200 for 4 in their final match of the tournament.

Canada were then restricted to 118 for 8 with Mohammad Nabi (4/7) and Rashid Khan (2/19) taking four and two wickets respectively.

Brief scores: Afghanistan 200 for 4 in 20 overs (Rahmanullah Gurbaz 30, Ibrahim Zadran 95 not out, Sediqullah Atal 44; Jaskaran Singh 3/52).

Canada: 118 for 8 in 20 overs (Harsh Thaker 30; Mohammad Nabi 4/7, Rashid Khan 2/19).
