After implementing Delhi Food Security Rule-2026, Delhi Government has now issued the exact SOP for the process of making new ration cards. Now only online registration will be valid for the new ration card. The head of the family registering will have to submit the Aadhar cards of all the family members with him. The application will be examined at three levels. The final decision whether to accept the application or not will be taken by the District Level Committee.

New rules of ration card in Delhi

Delhi government has formalized the process of making new ration cards for the needy people. The notification of Delhi Food Security Rules 2026 was issued only last week and now the registration process for 8.27 lakh vacancies is going to start. Only online registration will be valid for the new ration card. The person applying for this will have to apply by going to. While registering, the head of the family will have to submit the Aadhar cards of all the members with him. The application will be examined at three levels. The District Level Committee will take the final decision whether the application is accepted or not.

Required Documents and Conditions:

Aadhar cards of all the family members: During registration, not only the head but also the entire family members will have to submit Aadhar cards.

Residence Proof: If a member does not have Delhi address on his Aadhaar card, then he will have to provide proof of residence of Delhi.

Income Limit: The annual income of the family should not exceed Rs 1.20 lakh. For this, only the income certificate issued from the Revenue Department will be valid.

Utility Bill: It will be mandatory to pay electricity bill in the name of a family member.

Special arrangements made in new rules

Delhi government has made a provision to make women the head of the family in the new ration card SOP. According to this, only the eldest woman in the family will be considered the head on the ration card. If the woman is below 18 years of age, the man will be made the head. As soon as the woman turns 18, the same head will be valid in the ration card. After registration, there will be strict two-level verification to confirm eligibility and documents. The aim of this step is to give rights and identity to women in the family, as well as to make the ration distribution process transparent and accountable.

• Three-tier verification:

Field Verification: First the Food Supply Officer will visit the family and do a physical check.

Assistant Commissioner: Will examine the documents and information based on the field report.

DM Committee: The file will ultimately go to the District Level Committee headed by the District Magistrate (DM). This committee will decide which family is most needy and will be approved for ration card.

• Change in Registration:

Now it is mandatory to show Aadhar card of all the family members during online registration. This will ensure that correct information and eligibility of all family members can be verified.

Now family income certificate will be mandatory for ration card, which will have to be issued from the Revenue Department. Earlier it was self-attested, now official proof is necessary. Food Supply Officer – Will do field verification. Assistant Commissioner – Will examine the documents and reports. DM Committee – Will give final approval and decide that the most needy family will get the ration card first.
