Tesco is offering a free health test at 350 branches across the UK. The retail giant has partnered with the British Heart Foundation (BHF), with both urging people to prioritise their wellbeing this month.
High blood pressure is amongst the primary risk factors for heart attacks and strokes, yet the BHF estimates that up to 5 million adults across the UK may be living with the condition without knowing. Because high blood pressure frequently has no signs or symptoms, the only method to discover it is to get tested.
When detected early, high blood pressure can be successfully managed, helping to safeguard long‐term health. Tesco customers can receive a free blood pressure test, with both pre-booked and walk-in appointments on offer.
Tests are conducted in private consultation rooms. Staff will explain the results clearly and, if an elevated reading is found, direct customers towards the appropriate next steps or support.
All Tesco pharmacists and pharmacy colleagues complete specialist "Let's Talk" training to help them discuss heart disease, cancer and type 2 diabetes with the public sensitively. The latest initiative, which has launched during February's Heart Month, builds on the collaboration between Tesco and the British Heart Foundation, encouraging the public to incorporate a blood pressure check into their daily routine.
Alongside the free in-store assessments, Tesco Magazine and the Tesco Real Food website are showcasing heart-healthy recipes including meals with reduced salt and reduced saturated fat to help shoppers prepare food with confidence at home.
The broader Tesco Health Charity Partnership with the British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK and Diabetes UK was established in 2018 and is "built on the simple belief that Every Little Help can make a big difference". Between February 16 and March 1, shoppers can also opt to round up their shopping to the nearest £1 at self-service checkouts, to generate funds for the Health Charity Partnership.
Tom Lye, category director for health & wellness at Tesco, said: "We want looking after your health to feel as simple as going into Tesco to do a shop. Our pharmacy teams are here to offer a quick, friendly blood pressure check - no fuss, no appointment needed.
"A few minutes in store can help to give peace of mind or get you support early if it's needed."
You can arrange a test on the Tesco website, or drop into store and request a free blood pressure test from the pharmacy.
