New Delhi: Australia defeated Oman by 9 wickets to end their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign on a high at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Friday, February 20. Adam Zampa took four wickets, while skipper Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head forged a 93-run partnership as Australia equalled England’s record for the fastest chase of a 100-plus target in the Men’s T20 World Cup history.

Chasing a 105-run target, the Aussies got off to an explosive start as Marsh and Head batted with a clear intent to attack the Oman bowlers from the first delivery and never allowed them any chance to make a comeback.

The Australian captain scored an unbeaten 64 runs off 44 balls, smashing seven boundaries and four maximums, while Head was removed by Shakeel Ahmed on 32. After his dismissal, Josh Inglis joined Marsh to finish the game in just 9.4 overs.

Adam Zampa shines

Earlier, Adam Zampa picked up four wickets to bundle out Oman for 104 runs. Xavier Bartlett and Glenn Maxwell also took two wickets each as Oman collapsed without giving a proper fight in 16.2 overs.

Australia opted to field first, and Xavier Bartlett proved the captain’s decision right by removing Aamir Kaleem on the first ball with a sharp incoming delivery that went through the gap to break the stumps. In the same over, Glenn Maxwell then dropped a simple catch at second slip after Bartlett induced an edge from Karan with a late outswinger.

Captain Jatinder Singh and Karan Sonvale played a few good shots and tried to build a partnership. But Ellis removed Sonavale for 12, while Bartlett dismissed Jatinder for 17 runs, leaving Oman reeling at 39/3 in five overs.

Hammad Mirza showed his class and smoked Cameron Green for a maximum over point to help Oman end their powerplay at 47/3. Adam Zampa removed Hammad for 16 runs in his first over.

He also dismissed Mohammad Nadeem (2), Shakeel Ahmed (3) and Shafiq Jan (0) as Oman’s middle and lower order failed to contribute. Maxwell also took two wickets by removing Wasim Ali for 32 runs and Jiten Ramanandi for 1.
