The Rajasthan Royals (RR) will play 4 of their 7 home matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur. The ground has served as RR's home base since the league start in 2008. The franchise has utilized the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati as their secondary home ground during recent seasons.
RR needed to change their match location because they faced continuous problems with the suspended Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) and the temporary committee which the Rajasthan government established.
The franchise raised safety issues after Tata Projects conducted an independent audit to assess the facility operations. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) supported RR's concerns especially after the Bengaluru stampede incident. The Rajasthan State Sports Council (RSSC) rejected the allegations and stated that the stadium required only minor repairs.
The Rajasthan government intervened to secure the continued existence of both RR and the IPL in Jaipur. RR chairperson Ranjit Barthakur recently met Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. The negotiations reached a successful conclusion because RR committed to playing four home games at their Jaipur venue.

The government benefits from this match because it results in one less match than the previous season. RR had earlier asked the state to sign an indemnity waiver and even considered skipping the venue entirely. The RSSC has already commenced maintenance and improvement projects at SMS Stadium to bring the facility up to IPL match hosting standards.
