New Delhi: Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC has jumped to the defence of the controversial upcoming film The Kerala Story 2. Facing backlash from political figures and religious groups over its portrayal of forced religious conversions in Kerala, the movie’s trailer has ignited a firestorm.

While some hail it as a “brutal truth,” others brand it “propaganda.” Shaina NC insists it’s not fake news but a reflection of harsh realities affecting thousands of girls.

 Shaina NC’s strong support

Shaina NC, a prominent Shiv Sena leader, spoke out firmly while talking to ANI on Friday. She defended the film, saying, “The film Kerala Story 2 is not a campaign of misinformation.” She pointed to real cases, adding, “The truth is that many girls in Kerala have been converted… This becomes evident when you look at the case study of 32,000 girls.”

Her comments highlight the film’s aim to spotlight these issues. Shaina urged critics to stay balanced, stating, “Highlighting this is the aim of this film. To those protesting against it, I would only say that if you want to maintain peace in society, you should look at both sides and understand what is actually happening in Kerala.”

 Trailer sparks heated debate

The trailer’s release has sparked sharp divisions of opinion. Directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, The Kerala Story 2 delves into themes of religious conversion and coercion across Kerala, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. Supporters see it as exposing uncomfortable truths, while detractors fear it stirs communal tensions.

 Criticism from Kerala leaders

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has strongly condemned the movie. He warned that such films “could again try to create communal tension in the state,” echoing concerns from the first Kerala Story. The All India Muslim Jamaat has also slammed it as propaganda.

 Film’s broader context

This sequel follows the 2023 hit The Kerala Story, which faced similar controversies but became a box-office success. Producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah and others, such as Kamakhya Narain Singh, have been vocal, but political support, like Shaina’s, adds weight to the row. The debate underscores tensions around sensitive topics in Indian cinema. As the release nears, the film tests the line between storytelling and societal impact.
