Gorakhpur Bureau- S M Tripathi

Gorakhpur. The administration has taken a big and decisive step to bring the city’s deteriorating traffic system back on track. Now four new traffic stations will be opened in the city which is facing ever increasing traffic jams, illegal parking and the arbitrariness of e-rickshaws. These traffic stations to be established in Dharamshala, Mohaddipur, Bettiahata and Nausar will strengthen area-wise monitoring and fix accountability.

According to the administration, Dharamshala traffic police station will handle the arrangements of Gorakhnath area. Mohaddipur police station will monitor Pipraich Road and Medical Road. Bettiahata traffic police station will cover Ghantaghar and Rustampur area, while Nausadh traffic police station will handle Transport Nagar and Phal Mandi area. It is clear that the most busy and jam-affected areas of the city have been given priority.

The strictest action will be taken against illegal parking. Vehicles parked randomly on the left side of the road will now come under direct action. Special campaigns will be run especially in Golghar, Ghantaghar, Medical Road and Transport Nagar. Those who break the rules will be challaned, and the vehicle will be lifted with a crane and sent directly to the yard. Teams of Municipal Corporation, Traffic Police and GDA will work together in this joint campaign.

E-rickshaw operation will also be fully regulated. Now e-rickshaws will be able to run only on fixed routes. Picking up and dropping passengers at intersections, stopping vehicles in the middle of the road or changing routes without permission will be costly. Action will be taken against repeat violators up to and including cancellation of permits.

Major improvements will also be made in yard management. A transparent system will be created by shifting the seized vehicles parked in an unorganized manner for years to organized places, so that future action can be implemented effectively.

Officials claim that with the operation of four new traffic police stations, area-wise monitoring will be strengthened and each police station in-charge will be directly responsible for the traffic system of his area. The residents of the city are now keeping an eye on how effective this strictness proves to be on the ground. The signs are clear—now there is no respite for rule breakers on the roads of Gorakhpur.
