A doctor has shared a common mistake that people make when they decide they would like to feel better in themselves and boost their health.
In each and every supermarket or cosmetic store there is always an aisle full of vitamins and supplements.
There is a tablet for just about everything, which can be useful if you have a known deficiency you need to supplement.
According to the NHS, vitamins and minerals are nutrients your body needs in small amounts to work properly and stay healthy.
But one GP, Dr Raj Arora, has encouraged people to stop picking up multiple supplements off the shelf, especially during a cost of living crisis.
She said: "I'm a doctor and here's one mistake that everyone is making. Now most people feel that it's 'new year, new me' and they're going to go to their local pharmacy or their drugstore and buy about 30,000 supplements.
"Stop, just stop. Of course your body might need some supplements like vitamin D for example or supplements that you might be deficient in, [and the] doctor has asked you to take them or your pharmacist has advised it.
"But aside from that you do not need to take a cocktail of supplements. They can be expensive, and in a cost of living crisis you don't need to add to your budget."
Continued by stating many items on the shelves don't have much evidence behind them, or the same vitamins could actually be consumed from a balanced and healthy diet.
The NHS agrees, with the website confirming most people should get all the nutrients they need by having a varied and balanced diet, although some people may need to take extra supplements.
DR Arora continued: "A lot of things you see on the shelf don't have much evidence behind them, don't really do what they say they're going to do or have very little evidence behind them so why bother?
"And also most things you see you can get through your diet. If you've got a really healthy, balanced, good diet and you're taking in most things.
"And you should be able to absorb those into your gut through your natural diet without having to supplement on top of that... because you're just going to wee out any excess."
