New Delhi: Abhishek Sharma managed to break his duck curse, but his horror run with the bat continued in India’s Super Eight opener against South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, in the T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday. Abhishek was dismissed cheaply once again as India suffered a terrible top-order collapse in the run chase against the Proteas.

After back-to-back three ducks in three matches in the tournament so far, Abhishek finally got off the mark against South Africa on Sunday. The left-hander didn’t take the strike as South Africa skipper Aiden Markram came to bowl the first over. He managed to get off the mark with a boundary against part-time spinner Markram on the final ball of his over.

Though he managed to end his duck curse by ending the three-match streak, Abhishek failed to fire once again. The explosive left-hander was dismissed cheaply on 15 off 12 balls as his poor form continued. Abhishek struck two fours and a six in his short stay in the middle, but never looked settled in the middle as he struggled to execute his shot.

Corbin Bosch plucked a blinder to help Marco Jansen dismiss the left-hand opener in the fifth over of India’s run chase. Abhishek, who has five ducks in his last nine innings, has so far managed only 15 runs in four matches in the T20 World Cup so far. It has been a forgetful campaign for the left-hander, who was expected to set the tournament of fire with the kind of form he was in and his skillset.
